How It Works
The problem with traditional aquarium filters is simple - each type does one job. Under-gravel filters are better at removing detritus from the water column, but develops build-up in their cavities, raising nitrates to dangerous levels. HOB and canister filters stop working effectively the moment their media gets clogged, and before that, you are relying on the fish to stir up the water so the “snow globe” effect can be sucked up. None of them have built in syphons.
The AstraReef Hybrid combines both filtration types into one seamless system. Under-gravel biological filtration works naturally below the waterline, while the AstraCurrent handles mechanical and chemical filtration above. The AstraGate overflow module tells you exactly when the media needs replacing - no guesswork.
The AstraCore Difference
Traditional under-gravel filters accumulate detritus in their cavities over time - raising nitrate levels and eventually harming your fish. The AstraCore mechanism solves this by allowing you to clean the cavity without dismantling the entire system.
The AstraAnchor extends your reach below the waterline so the entire cleaning process happens without getting your hands wet. Combined with the AstraWand scraping tool, full aquarium maintenance takes a fraction of the time it used to.
